With
over 200 wineries and 20 different wine regions (with 98 wineries within
1.5 hours drive from Melbourne) it is not hard to believe Victoria is
known as one of the world's greatest wine destinations. Whether its tasting
wines in the cellars, talking to the winemaker or just discovering new
vineyards, you are sure to take pleasure in the variety on offer.
The
main regions are the Yarra Valley, the Mornington Peninsula, Macedon Ranges,
Geelong Region, Rutherglen, the Pyrenees (formerly Avoca) and the Grampians
which is known for its sparkling wines and home of one of Australia's
best selling brands. Velvety dense shiraz styles, cabernet and chardonnay,
crisp citrus like rieslings, there is a wine style for every palette in
Victoria. The Rutherglen area to the north is well known for its rich
ports , muscats and other fortified wines.
